Iran has a few remaining airworthy models of the F-14A, which would have been the exact variant Maverick flew on in the 80s, so the idea of him happening upon one and being able to actually get going in it is kind of acceptable. There's only one nation on God's green earth still flying the F-14 Tomcat, and that nation is Iran. But it sounds like it will be worth the wait.

Unfortunately, with movie theaters on my no-fly list, I'll have to wait until this hits streaming to see it. I would often play the soundtrack music from Top Gun while playing, too. But imaging my surprise when the game awarded me the Medal of Honor. I had several silver stars, tons of bronze stars, and a few Navy and Marine Distinguished Flying Crosses. Usually, I'd get medals at the end of a mission. So I flew the thing to the aircraft carrier and with the needle just above stall, managed to snag the second wire and successfully land with fumes left in the tank. I was advised to eject and would have but I was informed my ejection system wasn't working, having been damaged. My plane was bucking like an angry bull, but I wasn't losing fuel though I was way low. I managed to get head to head with him, and with my last rounds of 20mm I got him. I could still fly, but half my controls were screwed up. I got behind one and shot him down, but the other guy was behind me and nailed me hard. The four missiles worked, and I was left with two bad guys I had to get in close to engage. Then on the way back out, I was jumped by six bad guys. I went in with a full load-out and shot down four enemy aircraft on the way in. It involved going deep into 'enemy territory' and destroying a land target (maybe a bridge?).

There was one mission I especially remember. This was a 1988 game that I played endlessly because as usual, I had no life.
